Worn Down By Politics

The ongoing budget fight in Lansing has “jolted” House Speaker Andy Dillon’s ” young, promising political career and churned his life in ways he didn’t imagine when he joined the House in 2004, his first elected job,” the Freep writes in a rare glimpse at one of the key personalities this fall in Lansing. “It has sorely tested an idealistic whiz kid who believes state government , should be more than a political meat grinder.”

He entered the speaker’s chair with diverse perspectives — pro-life, pro-business, yet still a Democrat — that don’t fit with traditional party labels. But the story of Dillon’s 2007 illustrates how difficult it is to try to chart new paths in Lansing.
