1. Up to 1,000 new high-tech jobs in Ann Arbor. Systems in Motion, a fast-growing IT start-up from Silicon Valley announced big plans this month for expansion in Silicon Valley.
2. More jobs than talent projected in the Upper Peninsula. The Marquette region is likely to experience significant talent gaps in health care, aircraft mechanics and other technical careers as baby boomers retire, according to presenters at an education summit this week.
3. Increased temp hiring in Grand Rapids may signal uptick. West Michigan is experiencing a spike in recent temporary employment, potentially signaling future growth.
4. Hey college students, here’s a job! More than 200 statewide interships in real estate, property management, health care, engineering, marketing, human resources, graphic design, politics, and other fields are currently posted on InterninMichigan.com.
5. Southwest Michigan gets national kudos from Site Selection Magazine: Last year’s $330 million, 3,300-job deal for MPI Research near Kalamazoo resulted in the Southwest corner of the state winning plaudits this year as one of the top deals in the country, as ranked by the leading publication for businesses considering new locations.
6. Hey entrepreneurs, Sparty is ready to party! Entrepreneur Magazine just named Michigan State University as one of the top college towns in the nation to launch a business.
