Winter Wikiup at Sunset by Cyndi VonKlingler

By The Center for Michigan - February 4, 2008

wikiup

This photo of the wikiup that my son built was taken on a late winter afternoon.  He chose canvas for the roof rather than the traditional birch bark.  The walls are made of cattail stems lashed to the sapling framework and reed mats to support the insulating snow banked against the walls.

My vision for Michigan is this:

May our Michigan landscape continue to inspire our love for nature and cause us to synchronize our lives with the cycles of nature.  May our Michigan economy benefit all who live here and provide every resident with good health, affordable shelter and sufficient food.  May the children of Michigan receive a solid education that kindles inspiration, justifies hope and brings prosperity.
