Maybe we can get prisons to use prisoners as cheap labor to operate recycling plants in at least the sorting areas.

Might help solve two problems in one. (see prison cost article)

ALL FOR RECYCLING.
We recycle every couple weeks, but lucky for us, it gets picked up from the curb from a blue plastic bin. But, we have to sort stuff and steam clean it and organize it and they are really picky on what plastics they'll take etc.

Im not sure why it is that recycling for profit isnt working in Michigan. I keep hearing about recycling centers in other parts of the country that pretty much take everything, sort it, press it, and/or burn things for fuel/energy, etc.

Anyone hear about teh Giant Pacific Garbage Patch? its in the ocean and is quite large. its a mess and one half of it hits some islands near Hawaii, and the other half near to Japan.
Theres a lot of poisons and effects from it as well.

Having just returned from a trip to Monterey center,Allegan County Mi.
I concur with Ms Cat Rowland on curbside recycle pickup.
sometimes the bins ar overstuffed and some times the trash left outside the bins leave an unsafe condition for us as recyclers.
Highway and backroad litter is another reason to urge people to recycle.

we can do it, you can help..........
