Allegan County still has the same recycling program it had 15 years ago - 2 dumpsters in Monteray township which residents who are willing to recycle have to drive to it to drop off.
We should be encouraging ALL residents to recycle by providing curbside service.
Lombard, Illinois has built a recycling facility that allows residents to put all their recyclables in one rolling can which is picked up curbside by Waste Management and then divided by type at the facility. We can do the same thing here.
It's great that Michigan is one of the few states that has a deposit system set up on beverage containers but a lot more plastic, metal, glass, and paper products can be recycled which will keep it out of the landfills, save money, and provide jobs.

Having just returned from a trip to Monterey center,Allegan County Mi.
I concur with Ms Cat Rowland on curbside recycle pickup.
sometimes the bins ar overstuffed and some times the trash left outside the bins leave an unsafe condition for us as recyclers.
Highway and backroad litter is another reason to urge people to recycle.
we can do it, you can help..........
ALL FOR RECYCLING.
We recycle every couple weeks, but lucky for us, it gets picked up from the curb from a blue plastic bin. But, we have to sort stuff and steam clean it and organize it and they are really picky on what plastics they'll take etc.
Im not sure why it is that recycling for profit isnt working in Michigan. I keep hearing about recycling centers in other parts of the country that pretty much take everything, sort it, press it, and/or burn things for fuel/energy, etc.
Anyone hear about teh Giant Pacific Garbage Patch? its in the ocean and is quite large. its a mess and one half of it hits some islands near Hawaii, and the other half near to Japan.
Theres a lot of poisons and effects from it as well.
Maybe we can get prisons to use prisoners as cheap labor to operate recycling plants in at least the sorting areas.
Might help solve two problems in one. (see prison cost article)
