We Will Prevail by Kevin Bouche

By The Center for Michigan - November 6, 2007

A lot of people don't realize just how much our state has to offer and it goes beyond just the automotive aspect. I think one of the best qualifying features of this state is that it has a great deal of wilderness and scenery. I believe it's important to recognize this simple idea because it seems we never take time to enjoy the beauty and fragile parts of Michigan. We also, have some of the safest and cleanest cities in the United States, in my opinion to accompany the beauty brought by nature.

There are a lot of citizens that just want to leave and go to a state with family or just pack up and start a new life. I've lived in Macomb County my whole life and I love it more than anything. It's a great county to live and work in, it may not be the richest county in Michigan, but we have a large population with a large sense of happiness and hospitality. Detroit has more to offer than is read in the headlines it's just the idea that the media only depicts the stories that will get the largest response from viewers. Personally, I like to see the good in Detroit, but we're so wrapped in the image that it's a bad place we forget about the rest.

Even though our state is in a recession at the moment, we will most likely pick back up considering the attractions and general friendliness of this area. I can't wait to participate in the workforce to make a difference. I currently go to MCC Center Campus and want to do something in the technological field, primarily networking. The making a difference for me comes from my volunteerism and my past experience with issues and rough times to give advice and support to my peers and others to help and provide comfort and trust.

When I was growing up in Shelby Township, I had many difficulties at home including divorce, financial difficulties with my family and a general depressing time. I moved in 2004 to my grandma's house in Sterling Heights where everything changed. We ended up with a beautiful home when my grandparents moved out and three cars to help with the necessary commutes we needed to make. We seemed at that point, to be a normal family, not rich, but  making a comfortable living.

I have two siblings a 7-year-old brother and a 13-year old sister. We have a lot of different personalities which clash at times, but we still have love that a family should. Just a few months ago though, we experienced another divorce sending us into a harder financial time once again. Through this background I want people to see that just because things don't look good and just when you believe it's all over and there's nothing you can do, something amazing and truly perfect could happen. Just because our state is experiencing difficulty is simply that, we will move forward and we will prevail.
