The "Green" in "Being Green"

By John Bebow - September 28, 2007

Depressed housing market? Nah, not in Idaho, the state with the fastest-growing economy in the nation. New residents are flocking to temperate Idaho for the diversified economy and the great natural resources.

A key ingredient "in Idaho's boom has been the 'amenities business' -- hiking, hunting, fishing, skiing, whitewater rafting -- that attracts tourists and new residents, from billionaires to young outdoor enthusiasts," USA Today wrote in a glowing cover story this week.

Michigan's abundant natural resources and recreational opportunities are world class -- and certainly competitive with Idaho's. We, too, can market Michigan's great lifestyle potential -- if we don't ruin our "North Coast" resources thru disinvestment.

    Hi Phil,
Really like THE CENTER FOR MICHIGAN! John Bebow's article The "Green" in "being Green" reminded me of a Michigan Outdoor Guide dated 1991,by Eric Sharp and the Free Press staff.
It is a wonderful graphic overview of the beauties and bountiful sports and adventures! In 320 pages-- it could be used in many ways to encourage tourism.
    ISBN 0-937247-20-0
Many writers, and/or publishers could learn new things about Michigan. Hopefully they could do some research about the areas involved, to add some current human interest and what ever it takes to market the wonders of Michigan. Let me hear from you.
    Cheers!
