The Great Northern Music Hall by Lyle Birchman

By The Center for Michigan - January 22, 2008

Our bluegrass gospel group ‘Bluegrass Revival' has played churches, bluegrass festivals and county fairs throughout Michigan for 21 years. Saturday night, January 19th , we once again performed at The Great Northern Music Hall in Howard City. It was a festive evening with fun had by all, especially the band! The performance closed with a rousing sing along with everyone on their feet clapping along.Set in the sanctuary of an old historic church, The Great Northern Music Hall provides a great acoustic setting for performers and audiences alike. All acoustic bands like ours pose a challenge because of the extensive use of microphones but sound man Nate Beemer masterfully mixes the sound with nary a trace of feedback.

Proprietor Clint Gitchel opened The Great Northern Music Hall & The Gettin' Picky music store 2001. Since then ‘The Hall' has hosted luminaries from the world of bluegrass music as well as offering a showcase for homegrown talent as well. And the shows are not limited to bluegrass. In the coming weeks ‘The Hall' will host both Ragtime and Blues music performers.

Interested in a non-alcoholic, smoke free venue to enjoy the music you love? The Great Northern Music Hall is all that and more.

The Great Northern Music Hall and Getting Picky Music Store is one of the many gems woven into the fabric of the communities which make up the Great State of Michigan. Visit them at 230 E. Edgerton St. in downtown Howard City. Their phone number is (231) 937-7033 or go to www.gettinpicky.com
