The Campaign Cash Flow
By John Bebow - August 1, 2008
Despite, Michigan's economic doldrums, it's not exactly a depression era in campaign finance.
New studies by the Michigan Campaign Finance Network watchdog group show:
The state's largest 150 political action committees have raised $27.3 million so far in this election cycle. That's down 9 percent from two years ago (to be expected since this year's race doesn't include the governor's seat).
15 PACS have raised more than a half million bucks since the beginning of 2007, including familiar war horses like the two major party funds for the House and Senate, the MEA teachers union, the United Auto Workers, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the Michigan Association of Realtors, the Beer & Wine Wholesaleers, and the Health & Hospital Association.
Candidates for the Michigan State House of Representatives have raised $8.4 million, about half of it going to candidates for the 45 open seats in which no incumbent can return because of term limits.
