What I love the most about Michigan is the sunsets.

This is a picture that I took when I was at Boyne Mountain, Boyne City at Lake Charlievoix.  Anyone that has ever camped in Michigan knows the heart of Michigan is the sunsets off the bay near the great lakes.  We found that the Sunset at Boyne City is in comparison to a cherry on top a good old moose track hot fudge sundae.  It is so enjoyable right down to the last glimmer of light.

The sunset just drew us to the bay one warm evening in October of 2006.  All at once we noticed that people were starting to gather near the bay area and of course you couldn't miss that the sunset was so warm and beautiful even from a distance in the middle of town the sky was lighting up like nothing I have never seen before.  The sky just lit up like a firecracker.  There was the golden part at the beginning then the sunset just covered the bay with blue, purples, reds, green, yellow, and gold.

So serene as we watched people in boats fishing with friends and others sitting on the shore experiencing what took our breath away.  There was a man that said we see this sunset about every night.  How wonderful I thought to be able to look at that sunset on the clear of every evening.  Something you could count on to encourage you and that sounded very good to me.

On the down side of Michigan and what I would like to see change in Michigan is the high unemployment rates, the foreclosures and the depressed economy.

I have thoughts on the future of Michigan also and liken it to the sunsets in our state.  I am from the city near Detroit and we do not view the sunsets like people do that live on the great lakes.  In fact you can hardly see the sunset from most any spot in the city because the homes and businesses are blocking our view.  If we stayed in the city all of the time we would never see the beauty that awaits us outside of the city limits and the transcendent sunsets brightly shining somewhere on the horizon.  I look at Michigan in the same way that If we look at Michigan with our focus on all of the real problems that block our view of better things to come then we feel hopeless.  But if we travel to a place in our minds to where our focus is on a bright future we will find hope in that future and with those two things in our hands a bright future and hope we can conquer most anything.  Our minds will start thinking about good ideas to expand outside of boundaries and passing up all problems by solving them and then we can building up our great State of Michigan.

As bright as the most beautiful sunset you could find so will be the future of Michigan shining bright and full of color branching out farther then we could ever hope for or imagine.  The sunset isn't over until it has completely set and there is always tomorrow for another sunset.  That gives me hope for Michigan and for a new tomorrow.
