Detroit Free Press editorial page editor Ron Dzwonkowski is speaking our language in his most recent column...
"The coming generations of Americans are going to face very serious challenges that they will be ill-equipped to meet if they have been completely turned off by the political process, if they don't know how to make the system work to do what's most right for the most people... Just pounding away isn't going to produce much, but it does make lots of noise... Good government should be all about pragmatism, progress and protection: doing or finding things that work to keep a society moving forward without ruining its collective resources or leaving anyone behind. Too many of our officeholders are instead driven by power, partisanship and money...
The moderate has become an endangered political species in recent years. We don't have enough people who are willing to listen to all ideas and plunge into the painstaking work of synthesizing different approaches into something that makes everybody a little bit unhappy but moves the issue forward."
Ron's column is the latest in a steady stream of Michigan media reports to highlight the work of the many citizens involved in the Center for Michigan's "Defining Moment Public Engagement Campaign.
