Observer & Eccentric - Center Seeks a Path for State's Prosperity

Michigan is broken, and Phil Power has a plan to fix it.

The former owner of the Observer & Eccentric Newspapers laid it out Wednesday to members of the American Association of University Women at the Iroquois Club in Bloomfield Township.

"The interests of 10 million people in Michigan are being sacrificed for the political interests of both parties," he said, in a scathing evaluation of the state Legislature and administration, Democrats and Republicans alike. "They knew about the (state's) $1.8 billion budget deficit for a year, and did they do anything about it? No."
