There is much to love in Michigan…miles of shoreline that match any in the world, football Saturdays in Ann Arbor, up north, and winning sports teams…to name a few. A world class industry that has brought us incredible recognition and a permanent footprint in the history of this country and world. We are liberal and conservative. And we have alot of really nice golf courses. Renowned universities and tucked away small college gems. There is much to love in Michigan.
But amid that love, some things need to be fixed or it won't much matter. We need to be faster at recognizing, accepting, embracing, and making change. World class industries don't stay forever, but they can be harnessed to keep us ahead and spread our economic wings. Old manufacturing needs to turn to new research. A downtown that needs repair, not talk. Universities that should be looked upon to provide even more impetus. We also need to boast about ourselves…to ourselves.
Think about other cities and areas we may consider great or leading. They probably have a more vibrant city. A more vibrant entrepreneurial culture. A more diverse economy. But they don't have our base of history, our shoreline, our up north, our natural areas that make quality of life so attainable. Lucky for us, the things that need to be fixed can be fixed.
THANKS!
