Ludington Sand Dune by Kaitlin Dupon

By The Center for Michigan - January 2, 2008

 Ludington

This photo was taken in Ludington, Michigan. I was sitting on a sand dune with my little sister taking pictures of the sunset when I turned to look at the lighthouse; what I saw was amazing. I instantly pulled my camera up to my eye and captured the moment. The way the sand and the trees reflect the light just captivates me. The soft pink light creates a soothing sensation and one instantly feels at home and safe. The feel of the sand also added to this sense of safety, it cradled us as we sat on the dune. The rest of the dunes rolled away from us and they seem to go on forever. If one looks closely they can see part of Lake Michigan and the coast, which creates a perfect horizon line. The horizon builds the intensity of the picture by showing how infinite the view is, one gets the sense of a never ending beach. The lighthouse adds to the scene by combining nature and civilization. I love that about Michigan; almost everywhere someone goes there is a breathtaking view and then a roaring upcoming city. Michigan has balanced out its natural and urban beauty perfectly. I hope Michigan will always have places like this, and that Michigan will never lose its natural appeal.
