JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Outreach Coordinator will serve as either an employee or a consultant to the Center.
The Outreach Coordinator will have three main responsibilities:
1. Member/Volunteer Outreach and Coordination – Organizing and managing a variety of volunteer activities, including organizing town hall meetings, holding political candidate debates, and organizing other gatherings involving Center members and community leaders. Also, managing communication with 3,000+ members of the Center, including responding to email and phone inquiries and managing feedback. Objective: build a growing, committed, and active membership.
2. Community Leader Education & Engagement – Taking Michigan’s Defining Moment reports to community leaders statewide, informing those leaders about the campaign and its various activities, and getting them involved.
3. Youth Outreach and Coordination – Developing and managing a youth and young adult outreach strategy to heavily engage Michigan residents under the age of 25 in ongoing Center programs, most notably the Michigan's Defining Moment Public Engagement Campaign.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL EXHIBIT THE BEST COMBINATION OF THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
4. Above all else, an understanding of and appreciation for the mission and activities of the Center, most notably the Michigan's Defining Moment Public Engagement Campaign. Full details on all aspects of the campaign are available on the Center's Web site: www.thecenterformichigan.net.
A Bachelor's degree and experience in marketing, non-profit management, communications, public relations, or membership development.
Knowledge and experience in community organizing. Familiarity with community development principals and tools that strengthen community participation.
Experience in planning and facilitating meetings, identifying community needs, and working with community leaders and volunteers of diverse backgrounds.
Extremely effective verbal and written communication skills and intuitive listening skills.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
Computer competency: Internet, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and consensus building.
Ability and willingness to travel throughout Michigan on short-term trips.
