I traveled across miles of oceans, moved through white and dark clouds and finally found myself in a beautiful and welcome environment in Michigan. I am an international student from Ghana in West Africa and currently studying in one of the colleges in Michigan. When I was in high school in Ghana, I had the desire of pursing my education and career in the United States.
After high school, I applied to colleges in the United States until I had an admission to study Service Management and Marketing at Davenport University in Michigan. Most of my friends and family were wondering how I would be able fit into the culture in Michigan. However, I considered it as an opportunity to learn about different cultures and interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
My first day at school in Michigan was exciting when some of the students and instructors were interested to learn about my culture. I was surprised to see how students actively participate and how professors were passionate about their job and their willingness to help students in class and after class. I realized that Michigan is the best place for one to acquire knowledge and advance his or her career. Just after lectures, I had friends who were interested to learn something about my country. I shared with them information from Ghana such political and educational system, festivals, tourist attraction sites, and other interesting events. My friends shared with me some of the interesting events and holidays in Michigan, and the one I found most exciting is the Thanksgiving holiday. During Thanksgiving days, most of my friends' families invite me to meet their homes for a turkey dinner. It has always been my favorite holiday as I have the opportunity to learn different about cultures in Michigan.
College life in Michigan is full of fun, educating, and experiencing a new way of living for personal and professional development. I have not regretted attending college in Michigan because they have state of the arts facilities; a diversified studying environment, and a welcoming students and faculty members.
