A couple of weeks ago, I invited 15 people to a meeting room at the Detroit Athletic Club for a "community conversation."
That's how Phil Power describes the small-scale discussions he's orchestrating throughout the state about a new, nonpartisan agenda to fix Michigan. I'm one of 100 volunteers who agreed to host such a meeting in a process that, as Crain's Sherri Begin reported on Oct. 15, Power hopes will grow to at least 10,000 participants by the 2010 elections.
As we look to Lansing and the inability of elected leaders to radically transform the state, I hope Michigan can last that long.
