Choosing Michigan Over India

By John Bebow - December 7, 2007

Michigan business executive Don Eenigenburg searched on the other side of the globe for ways to cut costs and increase productivity for Grand Rapids-based GE Aviation. But he didn't end up in India. Instead, his search concluded right here at home, at his alma mater, Michigan Tech in Houghton.

"By outsourcing our low-level engineering work to the well-educated and ambitious young engineers in India, we're investing in their future," Eenigenburg said. "Why shouldn't we invest in our children's future instead?"

The result: 50 new jobs in Houghton.

What a great example of 21st global competitiveness for Michigan.
