A downtown event out of a simple move.
When Merrill Lynch had out grown its old location it restored a historic building to expand its office space. The trouble was its big bull statue recently purchased from a local art gallery was still in front of the old location. So the City of Wyandotte, Downtown Development Authority, Merrill Lynch and the Dept of Public Works teamed up to help move the 700 pound sculpture made from recycled water heaters to the new location, and paired this activity with the monthly third Friday shopping event and a Light up the Night Walk for cancer research. The spectacle and promotion brought over four thousand people to watch the parade creep along the street.
The street was closed for a mere three hours but that gave a chance to report the street closure to the region ltraffic radio stations as well and generate more curiosity. The mini parade moved a total of two blocks complete with marching band who stopped and played along the way with fantastic formations and the school choir performed, and the trolley held Merrill Lynch officials the event took just over a hour to move the bull via a restored farm tractor.
Restaurants, stores and bars were full of on-lookers and supporters of the Leukemia and Lymphoma. Society event as they walked down the middle of the street with lighted red and white balloons and Merrill Lynch clients from all over the region carried Blue balloons.
Private and Public just all worked out well. The sculptor was on hand and the City fathers has had a chance to show off as well as everyone joined the parade to shuffle the new statue location After which the store remained opened until 10 p.m. to serve the cancer walk participants
